I haven't had to many jobs but I have worked in a kitchen before as a dishwasher which is why I would love to get a job in a environment I already know a little bit about. My experience as a pool care taker made me realize that a job can be more than a way to make money and I was hoping for this opportunity to be a dishwasher or prep cook would reinforce that idea for me. I hope to learn about all aspects of the restaurant business.
I managed the Tollgate pool for two summers which included a few things like working with chemicals, cleaning the pool, making sure people weren't doing anything that could endanger themselves, and checking people into the pool. It was fun working at the pool because I got to know everyone in my neighborhood, plus some of the older folks would bring me ice cream on hot days. Overall it helped me build a strong sense of community.
I did the dishes for a about a week then my boss started to let me help with food prep if I had all of the dishes done. Often times the restaurant wasn't very full so I essentially became a part time prep cook making pizza dough, chopping vegetables, making the sauces, and other small things. I really liked this job because I've always loved restaurants and going to them as a kid.
