Production Worker

  • Followed safety procedures and guidelines to maintain safe working environments.

  • In Extrusion I worked in multiple jobs.
  • Used a grinder to smooth out imperfections in aluminum and lithium products.
  • As a Thermal Operator I learned various practices for heat treating the aluminum and lithium products. I worked closely with metallurgy staff to troubleshoot practices and mechanical issues with furnaces and equipment.
  • As a heavy equipment operator I used overhead cranes to load rail cars and distribute product throughout the mill. I also would load spotter truck trailers for product moving between departments.
  • Ingot department
  • Transferred to the Ingot department to work as a Melt Bay Operator.
  • I’m the Melt Bay I worked on a 5 man team that rotated various positions.
  • I would operate a large CAT front loader to scoop up aluminum scrap into metal containers. The metal containers would be dumped and pushed into the metal melting furnaces.
  • I would operate a large CAT punch truck. This is the same size as the front loader but fitted with a large steel boom. The steel boom was used to push scrap aluminum into furnaces and to attach to specialized tools for mixing and skimming the molten aluminum.
  • In the Fireman position I would direct the other team members of the order of operation for the shift. My duty also included gathering the scrap weights per furnace orders and operating the furnaces. I would also work closely with the department supervisor and maintenance to determine efficiency and to troubleshoot any maintenance related issues.
  • In the Fireman Aid position I would haul scrap to the furnace staging area and figure the recipes for the various alloys produced. This would include using mathematical formulas to determine the amount of various elements needed to produce the alloy. I worked with the lab to determine if the product was within tolerances.
  • I would also operate a large rotating Linde fork lift to empty the scrap containers to be pushed into furnaces and by the punch truck. This position was also responsible for taking adequate metal samples to be sent to the lab.
  • Transfer to Tube Mill department.
  • In the Tube Mill department I operate a medium rotating Linde fork lift. I haul scrap, empty waste containers and perform various fork lifts tasks.
