Bio

Joshua is a seasoned litigation paralegal at the Law Office of Hopwood & Singhal and also serves as a Senior Administrative Assistant at Stand Together Trust, where his organizational skills and dedication contribute to the Trust's mission. Beyond his legal expertise, he's a fervent advocate for criminal justice reform. His core priorities encompass: Ending Federal Stash House Stings: Joshua staunchly advocates for the abolition of federal stash house stings, recognizing their detrimental impact on individuals and communities. Promoting "Second Look" Opportunities: He actively champions the concept of "second look" opportunities within the criminal justice system, emphasizing the need for fairness and equity in sentencing. Encouraging Restorative Justice Models: Joshua is a passionate supporter of restorative justice models, emphasizing healing and rehabilitation for both offenders and victims. Joshua's personal journey has significantly shaped his advocacy. Having experienced the repercussions of the war on drugs firsthand, he served an extensive 17-year sentence in federal prison due to an ATF reverse sting operation, which multiple federal courts have since declared illegal. In 2016, his life took a momentous turn when President Barack Obama commuted his sentence, leading to his release in 2017. Since then, Joshua has been a dynamic speaker, leveraging his firsthand experiences to underscore the pressing need for criminal justice reform. Furthermore, Joshua is the visionary founder of Reckoner Enterprises, an organization dedicated to addressing overcriminalization and transforming the federal prison system into a rehabilitative institution. This initiative challenges the misconception that justice-impacted individuals lack the ability to influence and contribute to criminal justice reform policy. Joshua's unique blend of personal experience and professional commitment makes him a powerful advocate for the cause of criminal justice reform, inspiring those who seek positive change in our justice system.
