Accomplishments

*Designed a 0.25 scale model of our fully autonomous vessel project for the Office of Naval Research and accomplished successful wave pool testing at the University of Iowa (August 2023).

*Developed bow ramp and on deck vehicle locking mechanism designs (July 2023 - December 2023).

*Implemented a bow thruster and upgraded the vessels lateral and longitudinal structural stiffeners (March 2022-December 2023).

*Upgraded Propellers and integrated propeller nozzles while strengthening the propeller strut support beams in the lazarette (September 2023-December 2023).

*Developed a propulsion system for the power output needed for the autonomous vessel (March 2022-June 2022).

*Lead the Solidworks 3-D solid modeling design of the launch and recovery system that is to be implemented on the autonomous vessel (January 2023-December 2023).

*Trained in heat welding of TPU fabric and rubber material (March 2022-May 2022).

*SME/Lead Engineer for a Battle Damage Ready repair exercise at JRMC, Yokosuka. Major repairs were accomplished 30 days ahead of schedule (December 2021 - March 2022).

    * Performed extensive troubleshooting and testing of the controllable pitch propeller system of two separate DDG-51 Class ships reporting a Category 4 Casualty Report (CASREP) to resolve a loss of pitch control. The oversight and technical repair recommendations allowed the ships to return to their missions (September 2021- November 2021).

    * Lead a team of Engineers and Divers in an unprecedented underwater replacement of a DDG-51 Class propeller hub, which was the only the second time in naval history this work was accomplished on a Destroyer. The job was completed in 18 days, which was 12 days ahead of the 30 day schedule. This repair saved the Navy $230,000 (March 2020-April 2020).

    * Trained and led a team of Engineers in the planning, oversight, and execution of an emergent job on a DDG to replace multiple damaged components in a main reduction gear casualty. This includes the investigation into the cause, system flushing, dock trials and sea trials (May 2019).

    * Performed a main reduction gear and lube oil system health assessment and source investigation after water compromised the gears and multiple supporting components on a DDG (August 2019 - October 2019).

    * Planned and oversaw a Gas Turbine Generator Reduction Gear changeout on DDG. This emergent Category 3 CASREP was completed and tested one week ahead of schedule and was the first GTG Reduction Gear changeout on a DDG Class ship accomplished at PHNSY (June 2019).

    * Designed/Modeled a custom Strike Plate Assembly to be manufactured and installed on the compromised #1 CPP System of a DDG-51 Class ship (February 2019). This Strike Plate Assembly was later implemented on other Destroyers.

    * Designed a custom aft hub check valve capable of being used to pump out a compromised Prairie Air System. The #1 Prairie air system on a DDG was successfully pumped out and repaired waterborne. Historically, this repair would required a ship to be dry docked. NAVSSES has since implemented the procedure (February 2019).
