- My main role at Subcom was to get the cable safely and correctly from the tanking process to the ship for delivery. The tasks associated with this are listed below;
- Tanking process - getting the cable ready for transport to the ship through data quality checks, ensuring the integrity of the cable in the tanking process
- Use of a micrometer and an ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure the thickness of the poly jacket to ensure it meets company specifications
- Cut ends to length using circular or band saw
- Prepare underwater cable for testing
- Verify cable length per order documentation
- Use wire strippers to prep end for testing
- Document any damage or defects created by the extrusion process
- Prepare cable for onboarding of the departing ship for transport to client
- Continued quality checks as the cable moves from the tank to the ship
- Part of team responsible for keeping all parts of the cable system intact during transport to the ship
- Ability to keep accurate logs during the process of loading the ship with cable
- Logging cable ID
- Accurate meter measurements to ensure the correct length of cable was loaded to the vessel
