Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Training NCO, Fire Team Leader, TOW gunner

United States Marine Corps
02.2002 - 12.2004
  • My Marine Corps experience as a non-commissioned officer was an incredible learning opportunity. I benefited from the Marine Corps 234 year old tradition of training leaders. I learned the skills required of a leader, I practiced these skills on the battlefields of Iraq, and I returned home having lead men in life and death situations. Many of these lessons are directly applicable to the business world.
  • As a Platoon Sergeant, I was responsible for the day to day operations of a platoon of 30 Marines. This included training, inspections, scheduling, and performance evaluations of the headquarters staff of the 2nd tank battalion. My platoon was responsible for all of the management and administrative support for the battalion. As a senior member of the management staff of a Battalion of over 420 Marines, I learned and developed management and organizational skills which I have been directly able to translate into the management and organization in the civilian business world.
  • As Battalion Training NCO, I managed the entire training process for the Battalion of over 420 Marines. This position required astute organization, managerial ability and innovative thinking to coordinate and put into action, the largest training exercise in the battalions history. As a result of my outstanding management and organizational skills, I was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
  • Both as a Fire Team Leader and as a TOW gunner I learned how to work with and motivate a diverse team. These skills are very important in working with others as a part of a team.
  • I was honorably discharged with service connected disability for injury sustained while serving in combat operations in Iraq.
  • Led training programs to enhance team readiness and operational effectiveness.
  • Developed and implemented tactical plans for mission success and resource allocation.
