Sandwich Maker, Cashier, and Deliverer

Carolina Cafe and Catering Co.
07.2019 - 12.2019

My job consisted of several roles. There were very few things in the cafe that I didn't do at any point in time.

These responsibilities included but were not limited to:

  • Operating a cash register and handling customer care
  • Answering the phones and putting orders into the POS system
  • Preparing beverages using an espresso machine
  • Performing walking deliveries up to a half mile radius (sometimes more for specific areas that drivers couldn't get to). I usually walked roughly 5 to sometimes 10 miles a day depending on how busy we were
  • Regulars of ours that I delivered to included the Attorney General of South Carolina (Alan Wilson), several state senators, as well as, the administrative coordinator, and the head of research for the house of representatives
  • Taking large catering orders
  • Preparing food in a fast-paced, "assembly line" type system. The food mostly consisted of a variety of sandwiches and salads
  • Running food to customers
  • Taking stock and ensuring that all of our coolers had what they needed to get us through the day

I had four primary roles:

  • Being a teaching assistant for the organization's top ensemble
  • Being a teaching assistant for classrooms of beginner string students aged 4 to 7 (I taught 4 year olds how to read sheet music)
  • Teaching private double bass lessons. A student of mine made first chair in the SC Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, second chair in all-state orchestra, and won his audition to become a music major at the University of South Carolina once he graduated high school
  • Assisting with our Winter and Spring concerts, where we had to get several orchestras (hundreds of students total, mostly in elementary school) on and off the stage in an orderly manner
