I was fortunate to have the impact I had on my students during that school year. I always try to be engaging and willing to take the risks that are needed to do what is best for students. I honestly didn't even realize that I had been nominated. I was in total shock when they showed up to my class to present the award. I wish I could tell you definitively what made that year so special but in a teacher's world the next year is the best year because you get a chance to refine your tools. This award opened doors that I wasn't quite prepared for like becoming the only teacher on the Nevada State board for multi-cultural development for adminstrators.
