In the Advanced Program of Detroit Food Academy, I work with as a team member with 20+ students to learn complicated culinary techniques and scale our own unique food-rooted business project. I have worked with Professional chefs and small business owners throughout this program year.
I completed hands-on cooking assignments, participated in field trips to food businesses, and visits from guest chefs. I received mentorship from food entrepreneurs in our community who share DFA’s values and are committed to lifting up the next generation of food leaders including Oakland Ave. Food Collective and Eastern Market.
This was not a paid position, but I gained knowledge about cooking together in class and preparing a community meal, explored the local food system, and took home ingredients kits to continue learning at home. I learned knife skills and about world cuisines. I participate in DFA's food curriculum.
