• Serve as leader to other staff regarding PACU standards resulting in comprehensive, patient-centered care
• Coordinate patient safety improvement activities
• Function as charge nurse, ensuring adequate distribution of staffing resources
• Perform pre and post-procedural care for patients undergoing surgical procedures including: general surgery, orthopedic, urologic, ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat, plastic, podiatry, and gastroenterology
• Execute pre and post-procedural care for intravenous infusions and pain clinic procedures
• Demonstrate technical and operation knowledge, applying these skills in clinical and surgical settings
• Collaborate with providers and ancillary services to provide Veteran and his/her family members appropriate surgical and discharge teachings
• Adherence to established policies of ASPAN, Infusion Nurses Society, and Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates
• Ensure compliance with standards of professional practice as well as state and federal regulations related to health care delivery services

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs for all patients with a focus on patients with strokes and cardiac and lung related co-morbidities
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate patient care and discharge readiness
• Document patient care in healthcare record according to established standards
• Direct and delegate care to other team members according to education, credentials and demonstrated competence
• Ensure own professional effectiveness through education and professional development
• Participate in development of and maintain established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention programs

• Function as lead RN, directing nurses and other staff to ensure patient-centered outcomes
• Providing leadership by training new staff
• Perform preoperative interviews to collect patient health history and provide instructions and information regarding procedures
• Supervise and mentor staff engaged in patient care and ensure quality services
• Manage shift operation efficiently and effectively
• Assess vital signs and admit surgical patients
• Coordinate communication and care elements with other team members and patient/family members
• Provide support and coverage to surgical team providing conscious sedation and acting as circulator for cataract and pain procedures
• Monitor patients for recovery from sedation and ensure all parameters are met for safe discharge
• Conduct postoperative phone calls to assess recovery and address concerns

30 Hrs/week

$50/hr

• Manage medication inventory, auditing documentation, ordering narcotics, and disposing of out dates
• Provide support to surgical team acting as circulation nurse during pain procedures
• Conduct intake assessments with patients and relatives to gather case history
• Order and interpret lab results and medical records, notifying anesthesia with any results outside of normal parameters
• Assess and prepare patients for neurosurgery and pain procedures, performing initial and ongoing patient assessments, obtaining intravenous access and providing comfort and reassurance
• Administer medications, track dosages and document patient condition, recovery progress and medication side effects
• Provide patient and family health education and home care strategies focusing on self-management, recovery and wellness
• Complete post-procedure phone calls to assess recovery continuum and provide answers to questions

• Provide Relief Charge Duties: Apply leadership, analytical skills, and self-direction in assigning nurse to patient scheduling
• Recover adult and pediatric patients undergoing robotic, general, neuro, orthopedic, urologic, plastic, laser, oral, opthalmology, ear, nose, and throat, gastroenterology, and gynecology surgery in outpatient and inpatient scenarios
• Monitor patient for therapeutic responses, reactions and effects
• Implement measures to ensure adequate oxygenation and gas exchange
• Maintain integrity of invasive drainage systems ensuring infection prevention
• Monitor for complications of musculoskeletal trauma and surgical procedures
• Use existing guidelines, protocols, and polices to respond to changing patient situations
• Perform intervention in cases of postoperative emergencies
• Initiate, maintain, and monitor intravenous therapy
• Provide thorough and thoughtful patient education and teaching based upon patient's educational needs and learning abilities
• Collaborate with house supervisor and other interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely and appropriate placement of patients after post-operative procedures
