Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
01.2019 - 05.2021
  • Drilling Process: A drill rig is used to create a pilot bore from the entry point to the exit point along a predetermined path underground. The drill bit is steerable and guided by a drilling rig operator.
  • Guidance System: The drilling rig is equipped with a guidance system that allows operators to control the direction and angle of the drill head as it progresses underground. This guidance system helps ensure accuracy and precision in following the desired path.
  • Reaming: After the pilot hole is drilled, larger cutting tools called reamers are used to enlarge the hole to the desired diameter. Reaming may occur in multiple stages to achieve the necessary size for the pipe or conduit being installed.
  • Pipe Installation: Once the hole is drilled and enlarged, the pipe, conduit, or cable is pulled through the drilled pathway using a combination of drilling fluid and pulling equipment. The drilling fluid helps to stabilize the hole and lubricate the pipe during installation.
  • Backfilling: After the pipe or conduit is installed, the borehole is backfilled with soil or other suitable material to restore the surface to its original condition.
