Community Service

Working with my current school in creating opportunities for students with disabilities and students that do not have disabilities and creating a peer buddy partnership called “Buddies not Bullies”. 


Wrote a Walmart Grant that would provide incentives, rewards, games and prizes for students that would allow students PK-4 through5th grade, to partner with a “Buddy” with special needs and disabilities. Students would engage in “Lunch Bunch” and “Buddy not Bullying” activities., 


Volunteer Opportunities are provided through my sorority and the other organizations that I am involved with. Volunteered with tutoring at-risk students; developing enrichment activities for High School students. 


Organized scholarship criteria for deserving High School students and meeting with them and their parents to effectively navigate the application process.

Accomplishments

  • Served as key contributing member of the Leadership team. Provided innovative and successful ideas and programs utilized for teacher and staff effectiveness in new instructional approaches for student academic success.
  • Education Strategies: Employed special educational strategies and techniques during successful staff development and special education training to help teachers develop skills that assisted students with sensory/perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Parent Communication: Provided opportunities for Parent and Community involvement in the school, especially parents with special needs and diverse backgrounds. Parent Educational Opportunities with the Counseling Department to inform parents of resources and parenting skills in working with their students.
  • Regularly met with parents to discuss student issues and course weakness areas and to develop plans of action with parents and teachers on students needing504, RTI, Dyslexia, Special Education and differentiated instruction or accommodations.
  • Created collaborative classroom experience through on going teacher/staff development with class curriculum for greater learning opportunities. Assisted with TEKS, STAAR and curriculum integration for student academic success.
