I took an early childhood development class this past year and loved spending my time taking care of and teaching children ages 3 months to 5. This experience gave me knowledge of how to develop a curriculum for childcare as well as the milestones children face. I have learned what is and is not age-appropriate, from what foods are allowed to toys. My major in College is Neuroscience, and I plan to minor in early childhood development to keep advancing my ability to communicate and understand children. I am passionate about children and helping them grow up into intelligent and kind humans. Throughout my freshman year in college, I spent many hours observing and working with toddlers for my classes. This has involved understanding different child development theories, applying them to real-life scenarios, and learning how to properly engage with a child. I have been volunteering at the Connecticut College lab school and have volunteered at my high school child development center, giving me tons of experience working with young children.
I have extensive experience in childcare, having babysat for around five years and essentially served as a nanny for a family. During this time, I was responsible for creating a safe and nurturing environment for the children, planning and supervising daily activities, preparing meals, assisting with homework, and managing their schedules. I also developed strong communication skills by regularly communicating with parents to ensure their needs and expectations were met. My role required high responsibility, patience, and creativity to engage the children in educational and recreational activities. The children's ages ranged from 3 to 11 allowing me to gain experience working with multiple age levels. I was also responsible for reassured children when upset and providing emotional support. This included using grounding techniques when a child was aggressive or not listening and talking with the child one-on-one to dissolve issues and listen.
