Through excellent interpersonal skills and an automatic response of caring and support for students, staff, and parents, I improve learning environments and student success rates by demonstrating a commitment to excellence and an ability to meet diverse needs. I am a detail-oriented team player with strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy.
As the Educational Diagnostician at Sussex Correctional Institution, I identified and assessed all inmates age 22 and under who had qualified as Special Needs students in their previous school. I wrote their IEPs, taught the curriculum while strengthening their areas of weakness, maintained accurate records, and tracked their progress. In addition, I was responsible for researching appropriate training materials and technical support while following the strict guidelines of the Delaware Accommodations Manual. I provided professional development to the education staff, offering the best practices for teaching students with special needs.
As an Assistant Principal in a large urban high school, I demonstrated my versatility and adaptability by taking on a wide range of duties. I supervised English and social studies teachers, regularly observing them in their classrooms and applying the Delaware Teacher Supervisor Standards to assess their performance. After the observations, I met with each teacher privately to discuss their observation report, acting as a mentor and a coach. I researched and utilized many training videos, especially in classroom management, for the teachers, and held role-playing sessions after school. In addition to these responsibilities, I also had many other duties as assigned, such as lunch duty, bus duty, after-school chess club supervisor, and others too numerous to mention, showcasing my ability to handle a diverse set of tasks.
As the Education Associate, my job was to communicate the ELA and Literacy standards to all Delaware districts. Broken down, I was responsible for developing and providing professional development for each district's middle and high school principals, supervisors of instruction, and teachers. This professional development would take place at the Del Tech Community College center, at the districts in their meeting rooms for small groups, or auditoriums for the staff and administrators. I developed PowerPoint slides for information and handouts for the participants. Since this DOE initiative was ongoing, I met with district administrators for feedback and scheduled subsequent professional development. In addition, I often traveled to a district school to meet with teachers who were struggling to use the standards in their unit and lesson plans. I observed their lessons and provided feedback for improvement.
