• Directs all nursing activities relating to the procedures performed.
• Assists in patient education during all phases of the patient’s experience. Ensures informed consents are completed prior to administration of sedation.

• Assists with orientation and training of new or existing staff members. Take responsibility for identification of own professional growth and development needs. Participates with in-service opportunities and staff meetings.
• Adheres to national patient safety standards.
• Accountable for administration of drugs.
• Labels specimen containers in front of the patient and prepares specimens for the laboratory.
• Checks assignment for the day noting routine and special equipment/ supplies needed for each procedure.
• Observe sterile techniques in preparing for and assists with surgical procedures. Assists scrub tech by opening sterile packs and delivering necessary packets of materials.
• Assists with transfer of patients to the operating room from pre-op, giving assistance to anesthesia and surgeons and helps transfer patient to recovery following procedures.
• Assists scrub techs in dressing members of operating team. Observes all members of the operating team for sterile practices, reports any breaks immediately and takes steps to correct any break in technique.
• Observes progress of the procedure and provides additional instruments, supplies or equipment as necessary.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department.

• Assesses the patient and completeness of preparation upon receiving in OR.
• Interacts with the patient who is awake to reduce anxiety and discomfort.
• Set-up the OR and provides provide instruments, supplies and equipment for different types of operation and prepares operating room for patient's procedure.
• Ensures the operating on correct patient and correct procedure is being performed.
• Assists in positioning, responds to comfort and safety of the patient.
• Assists and anticipates surgeon's needs for instruments, sponges, sutures and other items.
• Assists and guides the safe transfer of patient to and from the OR with proper documentation handover.
• Recognizes emergency and responds accordingly.
• Adheres to the standards regarding sterile technique with respect to sponges and instruments count and documentation.
• Maintains cleanliness according to OR standard and infection control policy.
• Contributes to the smooth flow functioning of the OR through good communication with all who work in the suite or bring resources to it, the PACU staff and those on the surgical units with respects to SBAR communication.
• Observes patient during surgical procedure to detect possible complication and breaks in the sterile technique.
• Prepares and labels specimen for laboratory analysis and confirm to the surgeon as per standard procedure.
• Checks the surgical instruments, electrical equipment and suction apparatus for its proper functioning.
• Uses supplies, instruments and equipment judiciously and safely and promptly reports to Head Nurse for any failure or malfunctioning equipment, and reduction of supply inventory.
• Confirms surgical procedure according to written consent obtained from the patient before the surgical procedure.
• Maintains aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure.
• During the surgical procedure, OR Nurse can take the role of Circulating nurse or Scrub nurse.
• Attends relevant in-service continuing educational programs and meet the unit specific competency.
• Staff must meet all general and unit specific competencies.
• Performs duties/ assignments related to the unit scope of service.

• Applies principle of aseptic technique in performing surgical scrub, gowning, gloving, setting up instruments and draping of patients.
• Maintains optimum standards of nursing care and practice through preoperative and post-operative assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of patient care.
• Provides professional nursing care to patients, undergoing surgery; prepare and maintains operating room for all scheduled and emergency procedures.
• Assist surgeons on minor and major operations.
• Assist as scrub or circulating nurse.
• Maintains open communication lines to provide for the total care needs of the patient.
• Prepares, sterilizes and cares for operating room equipment and supplies.
• Maintains, concise and complete surgical records.
• Conducting instrument and equipment sterilization.
• Operates diagnostic machines.
