Married in 1976 at the age of 18 years old and have been happily married for 46 years. We had three biological children in 9 years, then started foster care in 1992. I have had 98 babies placed with us since then and am currently a licensed foster parent.
We adopted four children over the years. Two are autistic. We've had them since birth and they are now 26 years old.
We have a 12-year-old and a 18 year old that both have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Reactive Attachment Disorder. We learned to advocate for all our children and see that they have every resource available for them to have a great life.
Throughout the years I have always had a foster baby that has medical high needs. This is what I enjoy doing.
I also work as a school substitute as time allows.
I continued to have the same work experience as I did in California.
Once a month this committee reviews every foster child's case in our County. We make sure all the social workers are doing what they should do and that the parents, children and caregivers are getting everything they need in order to succeed. We then give our report to the judge overseeing each case.
I receive the cases to review for that month, beforehand, and read each case through.
During the meeting I listen to social workers, CASA, the parents and the children's attorney. I ask question as necessary then we report our conclusions.
It is a privilege to be chosen for this and an honor to work with other community members. This is an unpaid position.
I've built our dining room table a couple times.
Installed and finished over 9,000 sq. feet of wood floor over the years.
I've built our fireplace mantel, and many many other projects.
Remodeled my own kitchen by myself three times.
