Manages team members, operations, and patient care activities of a patient care unit during assigned shift. Maintains a professional work environment that supports delivery of high-quality patient and family centered care.
Job Responsibility
· Manages and leads team members, operations and patient care activities within a patient care unit during assigned shift.
· Collaborates with team members and nursing management in the development of methods, techniques and analytical approach to patient care.
· Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team members toward
· achieving department objectives.
· Promotes and maintains high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
· Creates a professional work environment that encourages team member respect, engagement, accountability and optimal patient outcomes.
· Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice.
· Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members during assigned shift.
· May conduct performance reviews and provide input into hiring, promotions and corrective actions.
· Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership).
· Educates team members in new and existing department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc.).
· Provides input on department budget allocations to nursing management.
· Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice.
· Facilitates continual patient care unit compliance with the JC, CMS, New
· York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations and System, hospital and department standards.
· Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health.
· Interprets policies, procedures and technical methods for team members.
· Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations that improve patient care delivery and team effectiveness using evidence-based strategies and solutions.
