Responsible for Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) duties on dredging projects. Duties include but are not limited the following:
Champion an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture via direct involvement with project personnel.
Lead weekly safety meetings for all shifts.
Provide training for routine and project specific tasks; including PPE requirements, CPR, 1st Aid/AED, Blood-Borne Pathogen, Confined Space Rescue, Hot-work permit, etc.
Ensuring annual training requirements are maintained.
Communicate daily with on-site project management team (Captain, Chief, Project Manager, Site Manager, Project Engineer, USACE Inspector etc.), in person, if feasible.
Maintain the projects approved Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) program and ensure compliance and assist in the development of more detailed and site specific AHA’s. Along with developing Definable Features of work AHA’s.
Monitor vessel/equipment and crew activities to help ensure HSE and other company policies and requirements are enforced, and associated task risks are mitigated.
Perform initial inspections on all equipment that arrives to the project sites, and periodic inspections as necessary. This included but is not limited to: Dredges, Cranes, Tugs, Crew boats, Skiffs, Quarters Barges, Anchor and Skidder barges, Welding machines, Air compressors, Bulldozers, track hoes, Marsh buggies, Loaders, Forklifts, etc.
Ensure the Project Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and Hazardous Communications (HAZCOM) programs are compliant to standards, including maintaining current Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Ensure emergency drills are conducted and reports submitted weekly, and work with crew to improve upon emergency actions proficiency.
Set-up project medical providers per company policy in advance of project start, and in the event of an injury or accident escort persons involved to designated facilities for medical treatment and ensure required Drug/Alcohol tests are performed per Company policy.
Immediately report all accidents, incidents, or near misses to management (Risk Management, Captain, Divisional Safety Department, PMs, and Clients if required.). Assist with investigations, Completion of reporting documents, Root cause analysis, and Lessons Learned
Submit daily reports of occurrences, inspections, audits, coaching and mentoring opportunities.
Manage the (SDTL) Safety Deficiency Tracking Log, and work with the necessary personnel to ensure prompt remediation, to open action items.
Train newly hired SSHO’s both employees and contractors, to ensure they are ready to assume the role of a qualified SSHO.
Conduct, participate, and document SIMOPS operations and meetings
Proficient in Arena’s SEMS
Conduct hourly rig walk around and inspections
Participate in all major job Pre-job Safety Meetings while on tower
Implement, train, and continue to better Arena’s SIF program. Opening and consulting for Whitefleet’s SIF program that will be starting up in June 2023 for Whitefleet's plug and abandonment program.
