As a combat support hospital, orthopedic care is provided in a field environments, focusing on the the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. This is achieved through a multi-disciplinary team comprising of orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and orthopedic technicians. The US Army Reservist service requirement here is one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer.


  • Manage approximately 32 patients per day performing and assisting in orthopedic procedures, including casting, splinting, and brace application ensuring patient comfort and promoting effective healing
  • Assess patient comfort related to cast and splints and assisted with comfort measures.
  • Fit appliances onto patients and made necessary adjustments.
  • Apply various immobilization devices and use orthopedic tools
  • Provide compassionate care and guidance to patients, explaining procedures and maintaining a calm environment

Brooke Army Medical Center, the Department of Defense 's largest and most robust Level 1 trauma center, manages 50-100 daily orthopedic cases, spanning both operative and non-operative care in general and specialized clinics


  • Applied variety of traditional and patient-tailored plaster and fiberglass casting, splints, braces, and soft goods to 20-30 patients per day of all age groups in the clinic as well as immediately post operatively.
  • Supported teams of 5-10 physicians & physician assistants in providing high-quality care by accurately measuring, fitting, and adjusting orthopedic appliances as needed.
  • Provided cast Uni-valving, Bi-valving, windowing and over-wrapping
  • Provided wound care, suture, staple & pin removals, wound vacuum application

  • Followed scrub-in procedures by gowning and gloving correctly to assist in sterile fields.

2/2022-7/2023: Orthopedic Surgery


  • Worked with team of up to 15 physicians divided evenly into 3 teams to provide inter-hospital care to up to 80 patients daily at Cornwall Regional and Falmouth Public General hospitals.
  • Worked with a team of up to 5 physicians to carry out follow up management of 100+ patients in weekly outpatient clinics.
  • Assisted in reducing joint dislocations to the hip, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrist and fingers
