Careerachievements

  • I was currently serving as a facilitator with the Jamaica Teaching Council, training over 120 teachers in the Summer Training Matrix- Appraisal Course
  • I was awarded Certificate of Appreciation by the Chief Executive Officer and the Professional Development Unit of the Jamaica Teaching Council, for being a Content Developer in the presentation entitled ‘ Zesty Strategies for Teaching Boys’ for the Jamaica Teaching Council’s National Professional Development Day, which was held on May 19, 2022.
  • As a Trained Mentor with the JTC, I trained over 62 staff members at Spanish Town Primary in December 2021, how to create an E-portfolio.
  • I was instrumental in developing/organizing Professional Development Sessions: ‘Differentiation’ and ‘Creating Individualized Instructional Plan’ in December 2021 and March 2022, respectively.
  • I implemented, coordinated and supervised the first Special Education Classes with the aim of establishing a Special Education Unit in September 2021, in which a proposal was written and submitted to the regional director at Region 6.
  • I was awarded the Spanish Town primary TOTA Awards for Excellence in Teaching, July 2018.
  • I was awarded Teacher of the Term by the Teacher of the Term Committee, 2017
  • I started the first Spanish Town Primary School Choir in December 2014 and as choir director/coordinator, one of my responsibilities is to coordinate the combined choir (both shifts) which includes rehearsals and participation in the JCDC Festival of Arts competitions. In doing so, I have attained 6 bronze, 3 silver and 3 gold over a five year period.
  • While serving as coordinator of the ASTEP at John Austin All Age in 2011, I started the first uniform group- Red Cross Club, with 25 members.
  • I have attained 100% mastery of students who sat the 2013 December Grade 4 Literacy Exam while working as a Reading Specialist in the Intervention Programme at Chapelton All Age. These students had failed the exams in three sittings and were pulled out and placed in the Learning Center. They were then placed back in the regular mainstream classes after mastering the fourth sitting of the exam, in preparation for the Grade Six Achievement Test.

Community Service

  • Co- Founder of the ‘Giving Back to Community Programme’- A Clarendon Based Back to School Summer Initiative- giving back to the community by hosting a free summer school programme and seeking sponsorship to aid children/parents with back to school.
  • Co- Leader of the Church of God Seventh Day May Pen Outreach Programme Mission- to help the poor/less fortunate in the community of May Pen by distributing soups to the street perons, elderly and mental ill patients at the May Pen Hospitals.
  • Coordinator of the Church of God Seventh Day Vacation Bible School- served our community by instilling values in children within the community, using stories of bible characters and mentorship programme developing their skills by offering free visual and culinary arts training.
  • Trained Mentor with the Jamaica Teaching Council- assisted beginning teachers to enhance their transition into the profession by providing opportunities for their developments as professionals
  • Lead Teacher of Quality Education Circle 61 with the Jamaica Teaching Council – provided teachers with opportunities to support each other through the development of Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development.
