Installation of poly pipe by either horizontal directional drilling or trenching.
Placing/setting handholes/vaults to which poly pipes are ran into and fiber is placed inside to be spliced into.
Operating various equipment such as directional drill, mini excavator, trenchers, skid-steer loader, forklift, powered reel trailers, hydro-excavator.
Maintaining and servicing equipment. Checking and observing equipment to maintain safety standards and reliability.
General understanding and skill of fixing basic components on various equipment such as removing/installing various pumps, replacing general wear parts, replacing hydraulic hoses, removing/cleaning small engine carburetors, etc.
Loading and unloading equipment on and off of trailers.
Hauling equipment from shop to job site.
Driving company pickups and hauling various trailers and equipment or materials.
Experienced in various dirt work.
Demonstrating and practicing proper and safe use of all equipment.
Use and proficiency of locating equipment used to guide horizontal directional drill.
Good understanding of percent grades which are used to steer directional drill up and down, controlling depth of the drill head.
Good understanding of underground utilities.
Ability to examine worksite and generate an effective plan and route to install underground poly/fiber.
Ability to recognize safety hazards at job sites.
Communicating with coworkers at job site to create a plan to install underground poly/fiber.
Use of hand tools and power tools.
Use of concrete saw and electric jack hammer.
Using shovels to hand dig when necessary.
Contacting and scheduling customers to install poly through yards to homes.
Working and negotiating with customers to ensure satisfaction and a "clean" installation both through the yard and at the house. Maintaining good, open communication with customers.
Maintaining good communication with various coworkers in charge of different steps of projects to ensure a smooth overall work flow.
Communication achieved through emails. phone calls, texts, microsoft teams, shared excel spreadsheets, and NISC.
Experience routing fiber optic cable through home attics and crawlspaces and fishing cable through walls to be terminated inside homes.
Ability to locate and mark underground utilities using locating equipment.
Experience with aerial fiber. Use of bucket trucks and pole trucks to install/repair/remove poles and fiber cable.

Laborer
Jomax Pipeline Construction
05.2019 - 02.2021
Construction laborer on 'bore crew' which was the crew that completed horizontal directional drilling
Assisted with installation of various sizes of steel pipe, from 6 inches up to 30 inches using various drilling processes.
Assisted with many different tasks involving directional drill such as maintenance, changing pipe baskets, changing pilot bit and tooling, mixing proper drilling fluid, evaluation of drill to ensure efficiency and safety, setting up and caring for water cooling system on drill pump.
Good knowledge of various levels of mechanic work on drill. Drill required constant maintenance on wear parts such as vise dies, rod guides and rod holders, saver subs, etc. Regular replacement of various hydraulic hoses, cylinders, and pumps. Replacing various electrical components like sensors, and switches.
Understanding of various types of back-reamers used to increase bore hole diameter to install larger pipe. Knowledge of different flow rates and drilling fluid thickness used to accompany various sized reamers and ground conditions.
Changing out tooling on directional drill from pilot bit to different sized reamers.
Communicating with excavator operator both verbally and through hand signals to ensure safety and efficiency, especially when performing dangerous task such as changing pipe baskets and tooling.
Operation of directional drilling locating system. Communication with driller to steer drill in a proper, straight path.
Use of survey equipment used to create bore profile plan.
Operation of mud reclaiming system.
Mud reclaiming system required constant mechanical care. Several pumps needed greased, adjusted, and cared for multiple times per day and pumps were rebuilt every 2-3 months. Shaker tables had to be constantly inspected to ensure vibrating motors were operating correctly, cone emitters were not clogging, screens were not clogging, and system wasn't overloaded when reclaiming mud.
Demonstrated good understanding of care on the mud system to ensure efficiency and preventing system from clogging, especially when reclaiming thick mud or heavily re-used mud.
Mixed various drilling fluid additives and had a good understanding of ground conditions and identifying the proper additive to assist in creating a stable bore hole. Communicated with driller to ensure correct fluid thickness and other additives.
Operation of various pto pumps on water trucks and vacuum trucks. Connecting and disconnecting 3 and 4 inch hoses.
Knowledge of various ways to assist in handling and moving large sections of steel pipe using excavators and side booms. Effective communication between all laborers and operators involved to ensure safety.
Various acts of manual labor.
Proper care for worksite and tools. Keeping the work area tidy and safe.
Loading and unloading various materials and tooling using excavator and lifting straps or forklifts.
Traveling on the road for long periods of time and staying in hotels. Working in several states throughout the year.
