When not in school, I began babysitting at 12 years of age on part-time basis, to help my mother with four younger siblings. I also babysat for an older cousin, making it possible for her to work, and still do so currently.
Babysitting duties included:
1. Assisting with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and other chores to help family members.
2. Taught siblings and cousins to organize their toys, to wash their hands at mealtime, and how to sit properly at the kitchen table.
3. Helped siblings complete their homework and school projects, if needed. Also made sure children went to bed on time to get their proper rest.
4. Am responsible to keep close watch of children to make sure they don't harm themselves and others.
As a Dip-Clerk my primary responsibilities included handling ice cream related tasks, which included:
1. Dipping Ice Cream to serve to customers. This involved scooping ice cream from containers and creating delicious cones, sundaes, or milkshakes.
2. Customer Service, which included interacting with customers, taking their orders, answering questions, and making sure they had a pleasant experience.
3. Maintaining Cleanliness, which included keeping the ice cream dipping area clean and organized. Regularly wiping down surfaces, sanitizing utensils, and maintaining a sanitary environment. I also was responsible for emptying trash cans, and mopping, if needed, when business was slow.
4. Stocking and Inventory. As a Dip Clerk it was also my responsibility to restock ice cream containers toppings and other related items. It was also my responsibility to monitor inventory levels and notify my supervisor when supplies were running low.
5. Cashier Duties. I was required to handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently. I collected payments, gave change, and maintained the cash register.
6. Product Knowledge. I was required to know about the different ice cream flavors, toppings and menu items so, if needed, I could recommend options to customers.
7. Quality Control. I was responsible for ensuring the ice cream was of high quality, where I had to check for freshness, proper storage, and adhered to UDF's safety standards.
8. Being friendly. Being friendly, efficient, and attentive to our customers needs was key to excelling in my role as Dip Clerk
