Accomplishments and Leadership

Mission, Vision, and Improvement

  • Snapshot of Our Learners Committee - Engaging in committee work to develop a vision for a “portrait” of a South Lyon Community Schools learner.
  • District Continuous Improvement Team- Engaged in Eleot training and classroom observations to support district accreditation process and identify MCIP goals.
  • District Grading and Reporting Team- Worked on a district committee to examine and re-design grading and reporting process for the district and led building level implementation.
  • Strategic Planning and Steering Committee- Working with district stakeholders to create a strategic plan for the district with the previous Superintendent.


Learning and Instruction

  • South Lyon East Intervention Team- Our building leadership team meets with counselors bi-monthly to discuss interventions for high-need students.
  • South Lyon East Instructional Rounds Team- Our administrative team and teachers will be rotating into classrooms regularly to look at student feedback as it pertains to students making progress toward learning goals.
  • District Subject Area Committees- Participated in numerous subject area committees for Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biology, and Geo-Physical Science to align curriculum and analyze student achievement data to troubleshoot problem areas. Served on South Lyon East High Committee to contribute to the design process of science laboratories and help to facilitate the opening of the school.
  • Building Instructional and Grade Level Teams - Implemented grade level and building level teams to examine student performance data (district assessments, NWEA, and state tests) to dialogue and develop student support plans for students who need them. Teachers also participate in building level problem solving teams for students with the highest needs .
  • Teacher Evaluations- Experience evaluating both probationary and tenured teachers using the Effective Educators/ IObserve platform and Marzano teaching strategies. This is a growth model that emphasizes student engagement and student centered learning.
  • Implementation of Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) at South Lyon East High School - Recently implemented the use of the survey at East in accordance with district vision for student support. Our counseling staff uses this data to follow up with students that may have areas of concern.
  • District Leadership Team- Collaborate with district leaders regularly to support district initiatives, vertical instructional alignment and student support systems.
  • District MTSS Team - Working with district administrators and teachers to develop a shared vision for our MTSS process in SLCS.
  • Cultivating Continuous Improvement - Participating as a district representative at the Oakland County Cultivating Continuous Improvement workshops to help develop and support district improvement initiatives.
  • Work Based Learning (Career Advancement Program)- Facilitated the development of a Work Based Learning program for both high schools.


Ethics and Professional Norms

  • Policy Committee- Working with Board Members, teaching staff, and central office administrators to revise and develop Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
  • Safety Administrative Team (SAT)- Working with central office staff, building principals, law enforcement, and teaching staff to revise and establish district safety protocols.
  • Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (C-STAG) - Trained user of this protocol to assess threatening situations which helps ensure building safety and a positive environment where students can learn.

Equity, Inclusiveness and Cultural Responsiveness

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) - Trained in the use of UDL strategies and facilitated professional development at the building level for the implementation of strategies in classrooms.
  • South Lyon East Parent and Community Team (PACT) and Booster Programs- Developed and implemented a team facilitated by parents to support East community involvement in building based activities. This is in addition to supporting multiple booster programs.
  • Restorative Practice- Using restorative practice protocol progressive approach to addressing student behavior to help reduce student discipline and OSS.
  • PBIS - Currently facilitating the development of the PBIS framework at SLEHS to promote positive school culture and improve student outcomes.


Community and External Leadership

  • Therapy Dog Program - Worked with a counselor at East as part of a Genius Hour project to propose and get board approval for bringing a therapy dog to the building and ultimately this led to a program being established for the entire district. This work was supported by the South Lyon Board of Education, the South Lyon Educational Foundation as well as many community organizations. We now have therapy dogs in many of our buildings throughout the district.
  • School Resource Officers- Hiring committee member and advocate for School Resource Officers in the District.
  • Shared Involvement Process (SIP) - Facilitator of a building level stakeholder committee that makes decisions regarding student and community initiatives as they pertain to East.
  • Communication- User of the SMORE platform to communicate to parents and staff on a weekly basis regarding school events, celebratory items, and building culture.
  • LVC Principals Group- Served as a founding member and contributed to the development of Constitution and bylaws of the Lakes Valley Conference. Actively involved in working with this group to maintain connections between high schools.


Operations and Management

  • District Bond Committee Work - Engaged with the district bond committee to help facilitate bond construction at East.
  • Contract Negotiatio ns- Participated on SLEA and Teamsters Negotiating Teams.
  • Master Schedule - Responsible for building the master schedule for South Lyon East High School and appropriately allocating FTE according to student needs.
  • Budget - Responsible for allocating and communicating the approved budget for South Lyon East High School. This includes allocations for personnel, equipment, and teaching materials.


Building Professional Capacity

  • District Policy Committee - Working with Board Members, teaching staff, and central office administrators to revise and develop Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
  • District Curriculum and Communication Committee- Working with Board Members, teaching staff, and central office administrators to review curricular amendments and SAC committee recommendations.
  • Co-Facilitator for Aspiring Administrators Professional Development- Facilitated professional development for aspiring administrators.
  • Principals Leadership Network - Active Participant in Oakland Schools Principals Leadership Network which provides opportunities to gain insight, support, and strategies from other district administrators.
