  • Conduct a safety huddle at 6:40 AM.
  • Serves as a clinical and resource expert, maintaining a safe and efficient environment.
  • Ensures the appropriate number of clinical personnel are available based on the surgical schedule.
  • Continuously assess the progress of surgeries by rounding, and anticipate changes needing to be made to ensure efficiency. Verbally inform the OR staff, PACU, Anesthesia, and Surgeons of any changes being made.
  • Communicate with Pre-Op when surgeries are running late, so they can inform families and subsequent patients about the delay of their surgery start time.
  • Ensure all clinical personnel are offered 30 minutes of uninterrupted lunch, address lunch schedules and/or assignments at the Safety Huddle on busy days.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to other team members throughout the day.
  • Contact appropriate vendors to ensure proper equipment maintenance, repairs, etc.
  • Coordinates future instrumentation/equipment needs with the vendor's representative. Request loaners.
  • Order special items not provided by the material management department.
  • Review the next day's schedule collaboratively with the OR manager to ensure all surgical needs and requests are met. Inform Radiology and Pharmacy of special circumstances when necessary.
  • Proactively plan for staffing deficiencies, overstaffing, and low-census days.
  • Facilitate communication between the OR and other departments within the facility.
