Shadowing Experience

Experience Name: Atlantis Fellowship Internship                        Dates: 06/2018-07/2018

Organization: Atlantis

Total Hours: 125

Experience Description: The Atlantis Project Fellowship is a program for students who are passionate about medicine and yearn for a valuable international clinical experience by shadowing doctors for 20+ hours a week in a different country.

Most meaningful: I did a 4-week-long fellowship in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, Summer 2018, and left with an idea of what I finally want to do in medicine. The town of Szekesfehervar is filled with kind, welcoming, and humble people, and the hospital was no different. I shadowed for 125 hours in 5 different departments (OBGYN, pediatrics, general surgery, emergency department, and gastroenterology). The opportunity to see all types of medicine, including surgery, was astounding. The country is beautiful, and exploring the country was breathtaking. This trip allowed me to gain experience medically and culturally, which I do not believe I could have received in the U.S.. Being an Atlantis Fellow has given me the opportunity to shadow physicians in Hungary, experience the healthcare system of another country, and make outstanding, like-minded friends who all have common goals. Atlantis helped me see the type of medical provider I wish to strive towards, which is a compassionate, well communicated with patients in the field of surgery.
