Supervision & Training
· Trains new Referrals Specialists
· Trains new Referrals Specialist for Specialty Clinics
· Stays on top of all trainings and webinars for all referrals specialists.
· Maintains extensive resource directory for PHC/RPHC and CHA referrals staff of community resources.· Knowledge of managed care requirements for referrals and primary care
· Works with Chief Medical Informatics Office to develop P2P for meaningful use.
· Works with the informatics team to optimize referral workflows in the electronic health record.
· Provides real-time support to referrals and specialty clinics during work hours by answering questions through jabber
· Assists with scheduling of the referrals team
· Participates in hiring decisions and contributes to performance evaluations.
· Attends outside forum/panels to bring information and training back to PHC staff if Manager not able to attend.
· Performs other duties as assigned by Referrals and Specialty Clinics Operations Manager
· Assumes management duties of the referrals team in the absence of the Referrals Manager.
Specialty Authorization and Referrals Processing
· Responsible for completion and processing of authorizations and referrals ordered by Providers and requested for patients for services both inside and outside of PHC/RPHC and CHA.
· Maintains updated authorizations/referrals information in patient chart through a tracking mechanism.
· Assists patients in the appeals process for denial of services through the proper appeals process with their insurance companies.
· Processes outside referrals from other PCP/specialist within expected timeframe
· Provides information on required documents for PCP’s as needed daily.
· Processes outsourced Mental Health referrals within expected timeframe
· Responsible for accurate verifications of patient insurance eligibility.
· Follow up on telephone encounters and messages left on voicemail.
· Schedules specialty clinics: Urology, GI, Endocrine, Neurology, and Rheumatology.
· Schedules Ophthalmology, Optometry, and Podiatry
· Answers phone calls regarding any referrals issues that come in through the Referrals phone queue
· Maintains relationships and assists specialists with any PHC/RPHC and CHA issues.
· Obtains prior authorization for Nebulizer machines given in-house to patient and manages stock closet.
Referral Tracking
· Tracks the completion of the referral process.
· Tracks referrals by using structured data.
Orders, tracks and processes difficult/specialty referrals.
