Hello, I am Derek C. Meeks,

I am a hard working and dedicated employee, I strive to create a positive and fun work environment also while maintaining safe and professional standards when interacting with customers/patients or anyone from the public. I have worked in a vast range of roles throughout the emergency services from Volunteer Fire Dept. to Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Dispatching. I am a person who feels very strongly for the care of others and will always do anything to help the next person weather I know or have met that person before, my biggest accomplishment is obtaining my EMT Certifications and being tasked with direct care for sick and injured patients. that being said I am dual certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the states of Kentucky and Indiana. I am also certified in CPR & AED operations with a vast range of other certifications. I do currently operate as an EMT in both states. I am also licensed in the state of Indiana for Emergency Medical Dispatching which entails giving medical instructions over the phone to high stress and high emotional callers to prevent loss of life. I posses a Valid Indiana State Issued drivers license.

Work History

Emergency Medical Technician / Firefighter

In this role, I am Responsible for Cleaning and organizing my ambulance, along with maintaining my ambulance in a manner that will make it fit to drive for the duration of my shift. Shifts can range anywhere from 12 to 24 hours. I am responsible in promptly responding to emergency calls for service in which an individual of the community is in need of emergency medical assistance, I am Responsible for treating patients to the best of my ability while staying within my scope of practice and recognizing when a higher level of care is needed for the patient. I am responsible for transporting patients safely to the hospital and getting them to that definitive care they need outside of pre-hospital patient care.

In this role I am responsible for many different things including but not limited to: BLS(Basic Life Support) Medical care to sick or injured patients, also driving the ambulance to and from Businesses, Schools, Private residences, Hospitals, etc. in parts of our operation I am tasked with picking patients up from the hospital and taking that patient to a skilled nursing facility or back to their residence. I am responsible for that patients well being and care and tasked with writing a PCR(Patient Care Report) to document my time with the patient. PCRs are legal documents once they are submitted.

In the other part of our operation, I am tasked with responding to 911 calls for medical services and/or emergencies. I am also tasked with driving the ambulance whilst using lights and sirens. I am then tasked with caring for patients and diagnosing issues that need to be fixed at the basic care level or determine if a higher care level is permitted for the patient in the form of an EMT-Advanced or EMT-Paramedic. I am also tasked with writing a thoroughly documented PCR for the encounter with all patients that will also be a legal document once it is submitted. Furthermore I am tasked with maintained the operability of my truck/unit in terms of medical supplies and also maintaining the cleanliness of the truck/unit.

Being legally authorized to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician in this two part operation requires a dual state certification and licensing in the states of Kentucky and Indiana

I was hired into this company for the sole purpose of attending the companies on site class for EMT-Basic. In this class I was taught and trained by state licensed instructors and trained to state standards for the states of Kentucky and Indiana. This was an 8 week course paid for completely by the AMR company. Following the course, instructors would have to sign off on students indicating they are ready for the National Registry Test for Emergency Medical Technicians. After Sign off from the lead instructor they student would schedule the time,date, and location of the test being that there are select authorized testing locations. after completion and passing of the test the student would then apply for first Kentucky EMT-B License Numbers. After obtained Ky numbers the student would then apply for Indiana EMT-B License Numbers and also watch a few short slide shows that also includes quizzes that test your knowledge. Furthermore, the student would then be laterally promoted in the company from EMT-Student to the role of EMT-Basic.


I graduated this course with passing the on site course along with Nation Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians. I also acquired my Kentucky and Indiana EMT-B License Numbers.

Also at times would go to fire calls and assist with tasks on scene at the low risk level such as grabbing tools and pulling hoses, etc. once I reached the age of 18 I was promoted to Prob. Firefighter where I was tasked with normal tasks as my fellow firefighters while being evaluated by my superiors. I did not continue any longer on this dept due to being a young adult still in high school and working.

I am a big person for the outdoors, I enjoy to go hiking with friends, I also enjoy going camping, setting up a camp fire and cooking the old style way over an open flame and enjoying the company and music of good people and good acoustic instruments. I also enjoy to go to the beach or pool and swim. swimming is a fun bonding time for family and friends and usually includes a cookout with great foods. I am also definitely one for a nice relaxing road trip to places I've never visited, I enjoy traveling with friends and family. I also an not opposed to staying inside on the couch and relaxing, playing playstation4, however only in the winter. In the summer you can always find me outside. lastly my biggest passion is training to really hone and sharpen the edge of the skills I am trained in and training for. I will always be interested in training and learning new things to further my skill levels.
