I've been asking myself what sets me apart from all the talented people that I have encountered in sales. If there's one thing I've learned about working with a team, it's that everyone brings something different to the table. If one team member excels at pitching, and the other at merchandising, it is equally important, but it can define how they go to market. What I've found that sets me apart the most is my ability to build relationships and my use of technology for marketing and efficiency.
Being around my dad as a child, I saw him interact with all kinds of salespeople in his supermarket. He was a gracious buyer that would give anyone time to make a presentation. I also worked in the store later in life as a manager and noticed how customers interacted with me versus other employees. What I observed is that building a partnership takes time, honesty, and consistent follow-up. Now, in my current role, I have continued to excel even in difficult times, because of my relationships.
When it comes to marketing, we live in a time when it is very difficult to capture and maintain someone's attention. Over the past few years, I have tried to adapt by adding in alternative methods of presenting. It wasn't long after that I was confident that creating text blasts and interactive sales sheets leads to many sales that may not have occurred otherwise. I began sharing my text blasts with my teammates, and they noticed increased sales and the ability for our group to have more successful focus days. By changing styles and keeping things fresh, my accounts are excited to see what products and programming I have to show them.
I also pride myself on being a teammate that coworkers feel they can reach out to with technical questions. Being efficient with the platforms and technology we are provided has allowed me to streamline my process and avoid unnecessary work. By familiarizing myself with our systems, I am able to get out in front of any issues, save time, and go into the market with accurate information.
Reflecting on my current team, I see so many people with different strong points. I think it's important to establish what drives us and explore how we can push ourselves to evolve in an ever-changing industry.
