PROVIDE COMPASSIONATE, COMPREHENSIVE, AND PATIENT CENTERED CARE to individuals within the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative period of heart catheterizations, peripheral vascular percutaneous interventions and implementation of cardiac monitors.
ADMINITSER CONSIOUS SEDATION, MEDICATIONS AND IV THERAPIES and monitor patients for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
IMPROVE EFFICIENCY in the Cardiac Cath Lab by assisting with equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance.
MAINTAIN A STERILE ENVIRONMENT in the Cath Lab, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
PERFORM COMPREHENSIVE NURSING ASSESSMENTS AND DOCUMENTATION. Implement interdisciplinary patient care plans created by cardiologist and nurse practitioners as well as other external medical specialties to meet best patient outcomes.
WORK AS PART OF AN INTREGAL TEAM TO COORDINATE CARE and make appropriate referrals to provide supplementary healthcare resources to patients requiring additional needs. Coordination of patient care involves the cardiologist and nurse practitioners within the practice as well as outside specialties commonly including primary care providers, cardiothoracic surgery, nephrology, pulmonology, oncology and sleep disorder labs. Frequently coordinate care with Baptist Medical Center South Hospital and their faculty when patients require emergent needs.
PROVIDE CLEAR AND IMPACTFUL PATIENT EDUCATION AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION to ensure the best post-procedural outcomes and patient safety. Patients and their families are educated on the catheterizations process and what to expect prior to and during their procedure. Afterwards, detailed discharge education is given to ensure safe healing and best patient outcomes. Follow up care and education days after the procedure is performed to ensure ongoing care plan compliance. In addition to curative/treatment-based healthcare, education commonly has a strong emphasis on preventative medicine including lifestyle modifications, appropriate screenings and immunizations.
PROVIDE HOLISTIC CARE TO PATIENTS WITHIN THE PRACTICE, outside of those receiving heart catheterizations, through medication refills and counseling, education on other cardiac testing results, implementation of care plans designed by physicians and nurse practitioners and collaborating with other healthcare specialties to ensure complete patient care.
PARTICIPATE IN YEARLY EVIDENCE-BASED RESEARCH AND CONTINUING EDUCATION to ensure ongoing learning and improve quality of care and patient safety. Most recently studied topics included radiation safety and minimizing radiation exposure and watershed strokes.
ASSUME MANAGERIAL DUTIES AND STEP IN AS THE CHARGE NURSE IN THE ABSENCE OF THE NURSE MANAGER by creating appropriate staff assignments based on the scope of practice of my coworkers, supervising work performance and giving advice and support when necessary. Set priorities and ensure completion of work based on the goals set by the Nurse Manager. Address the needs of our physicians when they encounter scheduling or IT challenges. Assist in the evaluation of new employee prospects in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and HR manager during the interview process. Actively involved in assessing performance and identifying training needs of new hires. Develop performance improvement goals in collaboration with the Nurse Manager to ensure patient safety and foster an efficient, secure and collaborative work environment. In the absence of the unit Nurse Manager, I work with the Practice Manager to ensure staffing needs are met with appropriate personnel during staffing shortages. Act as an information liaison to staff when new developments and training are required within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and practice. Update written practice policy and procedures and evaluate for correctness and completeness to reflect most current unit practice. Ensure incident reports are completed thoroughly and timely and participate in meetings to discuss how patient safety and care can be optimized within our unit.
