Summary

Knowledgeable educator who has spent her career working with non-readers in classroom settings and private practice. An early adopter and researcher in understanding , applying and educating families on the importance of Positive Psychology in classrooms as a means to help student's learn to regulate their anxiety, trauma, focus, and improve general mental and emotional health.

Using the best research from Harvard, University University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, and Yale University created a successful in-class protocol to reduce student anxiety towards reading and increased student reading levels by at least one year or more.

Knowledgeable expert in using diagnostic detective work to create overall reading and learning profiles for students by locating the exact areas of learning breakdown and building strong plans for closing gaps using research-based, direct instruction, multi-sensory approaches in short periods of time.

Global lecturer on dyslexia, Science of Reading, and Reading Trauma's far-reaching effects on students and families.

Researched and created effective methods for combatting the anxiety and self-esteem, and emotional issues involved with Reading Trauma.

  • Provided academic advisement and educational guidance for college and school aged learners in a lab school setting using constructive feedback, in-person facilitation, modeling, mentoring, and direct instruction.
  • Created and implemented Science of Reading research based lessons, scopes and sequences, and IEP's utilizing the components of reading including: phonemic awareness, word identification, direct, systematic, multisensory phonics, vocabulary and background knowledge (using a variety of tools including leveled texts, video, and technology), fluency, comprehension, and motivation.
  • Administered diagnostic reading, literacy and language assessments, worked collaboratively with SLP and OT practitioners, and grad students to pinpoint where a student's literacy journey broke down. Created successful individual student educational plans that optimized a student's strengths to build weaknesses.
