Medical-Surgical Orthopedic RN

• Assess and monitor physical and psychosocial well-being of patients on an acute care unit working with a wide spectrum of patient populations including myocardial infarction, CHF, diabetes, oncology, pulmonary, stroke, renal, GI, OBGYN, CIWA, orthopedics, pre-op, post-surgical, etc.
• Practice safe medication administration & following appropriate hospital policies & procedures
• Practice time management while caring for 4-5 patients in a shift
• Use critical thinking throughout the shift by identifying, prioritizing and evaluating the patient’s needs, then applying appropriate interventions
• Wound care/dressing changes
• Collaborate with doctors, surgeons, PT/OT, patients & family members to coordinate plan of care
• Manage patients with TPN, tube feedings, Heparin drips, lasix drips, protonix drips, Amiodarone drips & narcotic drips
• Educate patient on new lifestyle teachings such as diabetes, new ostomy, discharge instructions, post-operative precautions
• Monitoring & interpreting cardiac rhythms
