This position was a volunteer role that provided me the unique ability to advise the Merrimack School District on strategic ways to improve the special education experience. Through this role I collaborated with the Superintendent, Director of Student Services, along with many staff throughout the district to provide trainings and focus groups, ensuring the district is doing the best it can to serve its students and families. Some of the trainings were for parents/caregivers, while others are for parents and staff, combined. The district also utilized my advocacy experience to help strengthen the family-school partnership and de-escalate tense situations. During this time, I attended mental health trainings (NAMI), became a certified ABA specialist, and took part in multiple seminars pertaining to special education (Temple Grandin, NH Special Education Symposium, PIC).
Awarded Volunteer NH's "Spirit of New Hampshire" as recognition for my work in creating and sustaining The Caring Cupboards Program. The Caring Cupboards provides Merrimack's six, public schools and public library, supplemental food for kids in need.
