Leadership Experience

  • OB Charge Nurse (1.5yrs): Managed workflow, created assignments, managed staff and patient scheduling. Handled work and patient/family conflicts. Go-to resource for co-workers when difficult or new situations occur.
  • NeuroSurg Charge Nurse (1.5yrs): Managed work flow by creating assignments, planning patient flow including post op, transfer, and direct admissions. Handled work and patient/family conflict issues and was the go-to resource for co-workers when difficult or new situations occured.
  • Unit Coordinating Council (1.5yr): Discussed unit issues, areas/practices needing improvement, fundraising events, and other topics related to continuously improving the quality and workflow.

I specifically worked on the Quality Improvement subgroup. This included reviewing incident reports and any evident trends, doing audits on any subject that was part of the improvement area of that month (ex. Bedside handoff, Incentive Spirometry Use, etc.), among others. I personally created a workflow task bar during our EPIC transition that allowed a uniform, systematic way for employees on our unit to look up patients at shift arrival. I also streamlined our Floor Arrival Checklists (tasks that are to be completed when a post-op, transfer, or admit arrived).

  • Preceptor (NeuroSurg, OB, and Peri-Op): Orient and train new employees. Done with each specialty as an RN.
  • Nursing College Board (3yrs): Secretary and Senior Class Representative - Leader for the AMSN Mentorship Program. Connected University of Minnesota-Rochester students and Medical/Surgical Mayo Clinic nurses to form professional relationships and give guidance to students in nursing school.
