Position Overview: Comprehensive Pain and TelePain Center (hybrid)

• Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the care of patients, the majority of which have complex physical and psychosocial needs
• Serve as a liaison among nursing staff, medical providers, therapy providers, clerical staff, and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team to improve the clinical and/or rehabilitation experience for key stakeholders.
• Provide professional nursing assessment and intervention to patients with episodic or chronic complex medical and/or psychosocial needs.
• Triage patient calls, virtual messages, and walk-in patients
• Utilize telehealth technology to assess patients in rural and highly rural areas and assist in delivering a comprehensive, biopsychosocial model of pain management

Position Overview: Specialty Surgery Clinics

• Performed pre-procedural calls to patients ensuring all labs and testing was performed prior to a procedure and providing pre- and post-procedure education to patients
• Experienced at working with a variety of surgical specialties and providers in an outpatient setting including Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Functioned within an interdisciplinary team to develop plans for implementation, policies, procedures, and competencies during formation of five innovative minor procedure clinics which now perform 50+ invasive procedures a month and have been used as model clinics for other VA medical centers around the United States
• Assessed two-week post-operative patients and developed plan of care with the oversight of a specialty surgeon
• Set up sterile field for specialty minor surgical procedures and assisted patients and surgeons during procedures
• Conducted thorough patient assessments to identify changes in condition, promptly notifying physicians and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary.

• Maintained and monitored PEG, urostomy, ileostomy, nephrostomy, nasogastric and colostomy systems
• Performed invasive procedures including blood draw, obtaining specimens and cultures, urinary catheterization, complex dressing changes, rectal tube placement, wound VAC placement and changes
