Work History

Office Manager/Community Educator/Medical Records

Home Hospice
Andrews, TX
04.2018 - 02.2023
  • I was hired at Home Hospice in Andrews for a Medical Records clerk position. After a year, I was given more job duties to include Community Educator. My role included keeping accurate records, paper charts and electronic records, of patients on our services, complying with state and HIPPA laws. I oversaw documentation and made sure clinical staff was completing their duties according to our policies and documenting properly after each visit. It was my job to manage the office, answer phone calls, responded to emails, and route mail to appropriate personnel. I also ensured supplies were always stocked and machines such as copiers and fax machines were working properly. When answering phones, I was required to be professional and courteous, as I was the first point of contact for referrals from patients, family, and physicians. Often, I would need to multitask and use my judgment on priorities. Maintaining empathy and compassion was ideal for stressful encounters with patients' family and was important, often I developed appropriate relationships so the families could have confidence in our mission. Weekly duties included organizing and executing meetings with our medical directors and our clinical team to discuss patient progress or decline and modify medical management for those patients. And after the meetings, it was my job to make sure all clinical staff were aware of any changes. In my community educator role, I travelled to different facilities and spoke with nursing staff and physicians about our services and what could be considered appropriate diagnosis for consideration of services of hospice care. I organized community outreach and PR such as activities in nursing facilities or blood pressure clinics at the local senior centers. As always, maintaining relationships with my coworkers and any staff at facilities I frequented was important.

Paramedic

Andrews City/County Emergency Medical Services
Andrews, TX
08.2010 - 01.2017
  • I began a full time position at this service August 1, 2010. In April 2017, I dropped to part time status after the birth of my baby. My roles in this job evolved over the years. I was responsible for daily maintenance on multiple trucks, checking for appropriate equipment and being prepared for the day at hand. I oversaw other employees, making sure their job responsibilities are being fulfilled correctly and safely both on the ambulance in emergent situations and in the office. I served in the role of field training officer on several occasions for new employees. I had to teach our departments protocols and policies as well as critical thinking and critical care medicine. Another part of this position required me to manage several resources in a timely and affective manor. I maintained a professional relationship with hospital staff and public relations was always priority. As a Paramedic, I must maintain a minimum amount of continuing education hours for my state certification every 4 years, and I still hold this certification today. Other duties included:
  • Ensured compliance with established policies related to infection control procedures.
  • Provided pre-hospital care to those in need within the community, including administering medications, providing wound care and performing intubations.
  • Transported patients from accident scenes or hospital settings to medical facilities in a safe manner.
  • Monitored vital signs of patients and communicated changes to physicians or nurses in a timely manner.
  • Responded to emergency calls quickly and safely while utilizing appropriate driving techniques.

Community

The local newspaper wrote a story on myself and my family years ago. We have all served this community for years as jailers, dispatchers, deputies, paramedics, Attorney Generals Office and even an Air Force Police officer. Some public relation activities I have participated in include a community car seat event with our local hospital and Regional Area Council installing and providing knowledge to parents on car seat safety and provided CPR training to Boyscouts and the local 4H babysitting class. We also participated in the Safe Spot Trick or Treat and Health Fair as a department., With Home Hospice, I hosted several events at the local BeeHive for their residents such as cookie decorating and games.
