Dear WSDOT Interview Panel,
For the past few months, discussions in the workplace about this job posting came to fruition. After consideration, I would like to express interest in the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 Positions in the SCR Area 1. Combined with two winter seasons at the Bullfrog Shop, 3 months of summer employment at Hyak Shop and a background of 20 years in the construction and snow removal in then private sector, I am willing to show my qualifications for this position.
During my 20 years of working in construction, I have accumulated various skills. These skills include tree removal, install driveways and utilities, excavating foundations for buildings, drainage, installing septic systems, and grading out areas for surface water drainage. Occasional jobs included repairing water systems or sewer pipes in the communities and cities of Cle Elum and Roslyn. Some jobs required OSHA excavation standards, proper detours and securing excavated areas. Many times as an operator, I was digging next to live residential or high voltage/ water pressure utilities that required delicate precautions. Another company I was employed with built residential homes. As a result, besides the excavation phases of the work, I helped with concrete finish work, framing, interior finish, and landscaping. When I worked for a small tree service company, my work entailed trail building, brush piling, chipping, log bucking, and helping skid logs. This job certainly demanded attention to proper maintenance and acute details of my surrounds for safety. Over the course of these years, most of my machinery hours were on a skid steer, excavator, and backhoe. As a business owner, I build sheds, landscape, build fence, clearing and grading areas, road building and driveway work, water repairs, and install new utilities. As owner, my responsibleness include the following: day to day operations, and safety and maintenance planing. Additionally, over the course of my time with the DOT, work has included snow and Ice operations, grinding and asphalt paving, replacing concrete panels, patching freeway potholes, installing new guard rail, cleaning catch basins, and traffic control on the deck and with the TMA.
I would like to express my gratefulness for the winter seasons and summer at Hyak. I have gained knowledge and confidence in this job for the lead techs and fellow workers. I would appreciate the opportunity to get in interview for this job. I am confident with my construction background integrated with my willingness to excel, I can meet the work demands while contributing to the WSDOT SCR Area 1 workforce.
