During my last couple of jobs I have learned a lot from process of manufacturing, to sales and service of products. Being able to get into management at a young age gave me a better understanding on what it's like to lead a team. It helped me understand the "team first" mentality and gave me an understanding on how to improve my leadership skills for my team. Sales and service has shown me what it's like to interact with people I have never met before. I learned how to take backlash when products didn't work like they were supposed to, and I learned how to avoid the "knife in the back" mentally. I take pride in all of my work, and I continue to strive towards goals and improvement.
I was on two different shipping docks during this time frame. The first was for consumer products such as dog beds, mattress toppers, pillows, and other foam products manufactured within the company. The second was the carpet cushion shipping dock where I loaded rolls of carpet cushion by forklift into trailers. During this time I learned about forklift safety, time management, and how to perform required tasks quickly and efficiently.
While continuing to help run the shipping dock, I was offered the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the department. During this, I was offered the management position of production supervisor and started to learn all of the machines in my department. Along with that, I was in charge of filling out required paperwork, conducting monthly safety meetings, planning for next day goals, keeping a clean and orderly workspace, and filling in for the operators and/or manager if they weren't there.
As a sales representative, I was going to different city municipal stations making sales about our sewage pumps. I learned all the different equipment that we offered and used that information to make the sales happen. Along with that, I also did the service side. If a client had an issue or complaint, I would meet with them and troubleshoot the problem and repair it in the field.
