I have been working in the medical field for over 9 years now, starting on the ambulance as an EMT on a basic rig. That is where I learned the basics of vitals, triage, bedside manner, and how to handle emergencies. From there, I started working in a larger scale ER where my scope of practice widen: starting IVs, working triage, putting protocols in on pts, venipunctures, wound care, splinting, ECG, and understanding how a hospital system works. A few years in, I transitioned to a position at the "stand alone" ER where experience is required due to lack of resources available. I've since sharpened my skills, and have learned how to bring a better flow to the ER by helping the doctors, nurses, and patients. I am big on communication and asking questions, as there is always opportunities to learn and grow in healthcare.
