In my teaching approach, I emphasize the importance of building strong relationships with children and families, meeting the highest standards. I firmly believe that parent-teacher conferences are essential to maintaining transparent communication with parents about their child’s progress and growth in the classroom, consistently upholding professionalism. These conferences provide an opportunity for parents to express concerns and work collaboratively to develop a plan that ensures collective efforts towards the child’s success. Through daily interactions with families at the classroom entrance, I establish a welcoming environment that encourages active family engagement and meaningful interactions.

By keeping up with the procare app we use at our school I can send each parent information on their child’s health, daily potty breaks, behavior, daily activities, daily sleep schedule, medication administration, accidents/incidents and many more so they are able to look at the app and know what their child is doing throughout the day. I also like to engage with each parent if I can at the end of the day so they can see my facial expressions, hear my tone of voice, and see my body language. These are important to me especially when messages can get misconstrued, or maybe a specific parent doesn’t have the procare app to see things other parents get to. Doing weekly anecdotes on the children helps me keep up with their child’s growth and makes it easier for me to explain when at a parent-teacher conference how far their child has come.

It’s extremely important to know what’s going on in the child’s personal life outside of school so we understand each day why and if their behavior has changed in a positive or negative way. We are able to help the child throughout the day. When noticing a child with serious struggles, I like to communicate with the parent to ensure nothing too severe is going on in their lives, and if so, I like to offer advice when needed without overstepping. I want the parents to know I am here for their child, and the family as well, and if there is anything I can do for them, I like to assure the parents that they aren’t alone. Displayed in the classroom is also the class bulletin board which has the curriculum on it, any school updates which they can see right when they walk into the class.

Looking through all the family questionnaires that were completed on my behalf I was thoroughly overjoyed that the parents think so highly of me, and it makes me say to myself “you are doing something right”. I am so overjoyed that I found a profession I love doing. I do this to teach future leaders, to learn and grow from them, and to bring back everything I learned and or taught home to my little girls. Being a mom and teacher goes hand in hand, and I consider myself lucky to be able to do both. This profession comes with learning curves, but at the end of the day it’s extremely rewarding. I love hearing constructive criticism from peers, my bosses, and families so if there are better ways of doing something, I am able to make that change in a professional manner. The goal I have for myself is to continue to grow in ways I haven’t yet, and hopefully one day become a kindergarten teacher.
