As a new graduate Registered Nurse, I plan to strengthen my proficiency in clinical skills and building confidence by seeking opportunities for hands-on practice and using evidence-based resources to build my knowledge. I plan to continuously enhance my communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team. SELF REFLECTION
One of my most greatest achievements and successes is the steady improvement of my clinical skills. With repetition and seeking guidance and information from instructors or nurses, I have gained confidence and knowledge in performing skills efficiently. I deeply value building rapport and trust with patient's and their families. I ensure to listen to patient's with any concerns they may have and offer emotional support. Another successful aspect of my clinical practice is patient education. I understand the importance of providing thorough and efficient patient education about their conditions and self-care techniques. One challenge I plan to improve on is time management, especially in high acuity environments. One concept I also plan to grow on is communication in patients who may have language barriers or communication disorders by implementing creative strategies to ensure the patient's needs are met.
FUTURE GOALS
Short-term professional developmental goals of mine are to improve time management and prioritization and to expand on communication strategies in patients with impaired communication. I plan to use time management tools, seek feedback from others, and practice using adaptive communication methods. Long-term professional developmental goals of mine include obtaining advanced certification in a ER/Trauma specialty by enrolling in courses and dedicating time to advance my knowledge and practice. Another long-term professional developmental goal is to continuously engage in research and evidence-based practiced methods by being involved in clinical research to stay up-to-date on the most current practice to promote patient safety.
NURSING PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy of nursing is focused on the belief that any and all patients deserve compassionate and individualized care that addresses all needs and the patient's well-being. The nurse is to be an advocate, educator, and caregiver who has a role to encourage and empower patient's to be active in their health. I plan to collaborate with patient's and their families to develop plans reflecting their personal goals, but also promoting education to empower them with their health. I am also committed to continue learning throughout my profession. Medicine will continuously evolve, so it is important to stay current with the most up-to-date evidence-based practice to provide optimal patient care.
