Receiving a Daisy Award nomination is discussed as one of the most sought-after awards in the nursing community. Only nurses can be nominated, and they can be nominated by anyone including patients, patient's family members, fellow nurses, CNAs, doctors, physical therapists, etc. This nomination is to show appreciation for nurses the nominator thinks have gone "above and beyond" in their nursing care. When nominated, you get to see who nominated you, read what the nominator said, as well as receive a pin that looks like a daisy flower. Nurses commonly display their pins on their badges at work.
I am humbled to say that I have received two of these nominations in the first two years of my nursing career, when many nurses who have been working for much longer than me have yet to receive one. Both of my nominations were from patients I had taken care of on the postpartum unit.
