  • Operating Room Hiring Manager
  • Dear Hiring Manager:
  • My name is Kaylin Tidings and I am writing in response to the job application I found online for an application regarding the position as a surgical technologist. With my former work at St. Peter's hospital and Albany Medical Center, I believe that I have the acquired skills to accurately perform counts, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and pass instruments with regulations in mind.
  • I have successfully graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in May of 2020 with an associate in applied science degree in surgical technology. My course work has included English Composition I and II, Anatomy I and II, Microbiology, Surgical technology courses and many more. For my first rotation, I was at Ellis hospital in Schenectady, NY where I had clinical three days a week. At Ellis, I assist the surgeons in performing an efficient and smooth surgery to benefit the patient, and also enable a positive work environment between myself and coworkers in the operating room. During my rotation at Albany Med, I furthered my knowledge by scrubbing in for various specialties, saw the efficient flow of trauma surgeries, and learned how to better my scrub skills by the uplifting staff. At Albany Med, I have been signed off and competent in the following specialties: vascular, thoracic, orthopedics, general, obgyn, and urology. I spend most of my shifts in the neurology core, which I mostly specialize in craniotomy’s for tumor resections, shunts, hematoma evacuations, complex neurosurgery, and orthopedic/ neuro spine. Besides clinicals in the operating room, I also worked full-time at St. Peter's hospital. This job demands the knowledge and flexibility to work on a different floor every shift, which enabled me to adapt to a variety of patients and conditions every night. I believe that having this job previous to working in the operating room, helped me adapt quickly to accommodate to the patient's needs and respond quicker during rapid situations and codes. What I enjoy most about the field of medicine and surgery in particular, is the vast opportunities given to make a difference in everyone's lives and building strong core values such as team work and not giving up.
