Work History

Student Peer Mentor

Alamo Colleges
07.2024 - Current

The mission of the St. Philip’s College Faculty-Student Mentoring (FSM) Program is to empower students to achieve 30 credit hours on the way to realizing the career pathway and transfer opportunities available to them. The goal of the Faculty-Student Mentoring (FSM) Program at St. Philip’s College is to offer students the opportunity to establish an academic relationship with a faculty member. This faculty member (mentor) will meet with their assigned mentee throughout the semester to encourage and support their goals while attending St. Philip’s College. The faculty-student mentor will provide insight into the student’s academic success. Other focal points that are suggested for a mentor-mentee relationship will surround preparing the student for university transfer, aiding in refining workplace skills, and discussing career aspirations. Faculty mentees are assigned once a student has completed their first semester and/or has completed at least 15 earned hours.

A commissary bagger is a self-employed contractor who provides grocery bagging and carryout services for customers at a military commissary, earning income solely from tips. To become a bagger, you must sign a licensing agreement with the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) and follow their terms. The role requires customer service skills, physical stamina, and the ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Accomplishments

It is with great pride and confidence that I write this letter of recommendation for K'Don

Burnette, who has served as a dedicated Peer Mentor in the Department of Student Life.

Throughout his time in this role, K'Don consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism, dependability, and commitment to student engagement and community

From the very beginning, K'Don impressed our team with his initiative and drive.

Whether supporting Welcome Week, CultureFest, Scholarship Bowling, or volunteering, he has completed over 36 hours of volunteer service, which is an inspiring testament to his servant-leader mindset and passion for helping others. In the Department of Student Life, K'Don played a vital role in the success of our programs. He assisted with event setup, outreach efforts, social media communications, and supported leadership development workshops. His attention to detail and willingness to take initiative were crucial in creating a welcoming and vibrant campus environment. His interpersonal skills allowed him to serve as an approachable liaison between students and staff, always ready to answer questions or provide guidance.

I have no doubt that K'Don will continue to excel in any academic or professional environment they choose to pursue. He exemplifies the best of what it means to be a student leader: compassionate, hardworking, and purpose-driven.

Affiliations

Academically, K'Don is just as outstanding. Balancing coursework, extracurricular activities, and a position on the basketball team, he maintained a remarkable 3.8 GPA during the season, earning the highest GPA among team members. Additionally, he was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), joined Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), and is an active member of Collegiate 100(C100). These honors are a reflection not only of academic excellence but also of his dedication to leadership, integrity, and service.
