Keaton C. Snow

I joined the Army National Guard as a 13F in March of 2018. I was in the top three for PT and the only one to willingly accept physical challenges. In late August 2018, I returned to my unit. I began honing my skills as a forward observer in the annual training and field training exercises working with the 20th SFG to coordinate surface fires with air-to-surface fires from the Army and Air Force Aviators. In 2020 I volunteered for Operation Steady Resolve to help my community in times of need. After JRTC, my commander told me they were sending me to the Joint Fires Observer course to better advance my knowledge and skill in joint operations. I excelled in the system due to my understanding of weaponry and aircraft, and I graduated in the top tenth percentile. I was awarded the opportunity to use my craft in Operation Northern Strike, working alongside a JTAC and ODA team to coordinate precision strikes on targets while assaulting an objective from a UH-60. I deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve with the 37th IBCT in November of 2022 and ran the Brigade Fires Cell on the current operations floor. I attended BLC while deployed to retain my rank and position of Targeting NCO. As we were transferring out with our replacements, I was currently the only Fire Support NCO on ground to help train and prepare our replacements from 10th Mountain. When we returned home from Iraq to the States, I began furthering my career in the Army and helping guide my soldiers to better themselves to be the best they can be. Currently I am the A Co Squad Leader in Det-1 1-134th FA RGT. I train and communicate with my soldiers to the best of my ability to make them stronger and more resilient in the face of adversity.

• Targeting NCO, HHC 37th IBCT, HHB 1-134 FA RGT, OHARNG, 09/01/22, Present, 6 months, In support of Operation Inherent Resolve, I oversaw the fire support mission throughout the area of operations and CJOA while also maintaining my certifications as the Joint Fires Observer. My roles and responsibilities included monitoring air to ground, surface to surface missions conducted by the Army and Air Force. I worked alongside the JTAC to plan and coordinate cross-training between the JFOs and JTACs to better our aligned job duties, including preparing the JTAR for CAS load out for surface fire to coordinate night live fires, SEAD missions, and laser operations. Coordinating with the Brigade aviation officer to perform AWT missions in support of Task Force NO MERCY.
• Fire Support Specialist, HHC 37th IBCT, HHB 1-134 FA RGT, OHARNG, 08/01/20, 08/31/22, 2 years, I served as the Brigade Fire Support Specialist for two years under HHB 1-134 FA RGT attached to the Brigade Fires Cell. Additional duties included Planning and supporting the Battery in live fire exercises, Annual Training events, JRTC, and ONS (Operation Northern Strike). Serving as a Fires liaison and JFO to 20th SFG-ODA coordinating Fire support and air-to-surface munition drops during ONS. Responsible for the safe and accurate data and observation of Artillery and Munitions. During all exercises and training events, I was the primary Brigade AFATDS operator before ONS.
• Fire Support Specialist, HHB 1-134 FA RGT, OHARNG, 04/01/20, 08/31/20, 4 months, I Supported Operation Steady Resolve as a team leader in the state active duty mission at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. I sorted, packaged, and distributed food items to the community in need during Covid-19. Additional duties included constructing and developing the Mid-Ohio Food Banks outdoor garden and greenhouse located on the Columbus Hilltop. Teaching and instructing my fellow soldier’s in a construction style workplace. And assisting my officers in the electrical make-up of the greenhouse, by showing them the proper way to add electrical circuits to the build.
• Fire Support Specialist, HHC 37th IBCT, HHB 1-134 FA RGT, OHARNG, 08/01/18, 04/30/20, 1 year 8 months, I served as the primary Brigade AFATDS operator and Fire Support Specialist. Providing support to the Battalion to coordinate fire missions and pass clearance of fires from the commander and battle captain to the firing Battery. I volunteered extra time to attend live fire exercises, extra duties, and additional training opportunities to improve my knowledge of my craft and to learn as much as possible in the short amount of time that I had.
