Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data, develops and implements a plan of treatment, follows through on a continuum of patient care across the health-illness continuum and life span within protocols set forth and approved. Documents all situations, both internally and externally, that may arise out of the ordinary or are necessary to maintain accurate patient charts/records. The Float RN responsibilities remain the same as any other RN position within the Lexington Medical Center main hospital. The Float RN has the responsibility of being readily available to float to any unit within the hospital facility that requires the extra staff. The Float Pool has different categories that their nurses fall under, whether they be Med/Surg, Intermediate, or Critical Care. Each Float RN is responsible to assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods. Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
Coordinates the daily activities of the patient care unit and keeps the Nurse Manager or Director up-to-date on all activities. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of patients. Assists in establishing and monitoring patient care standards, and in the absence of the Nurse Manager assumes that role.
The RN manages care of four to five intermediate level patients; including, but not limited to patients who have undergone: cardiovascular/thoracic, gastrointestinal, peripheral vascular and urological procedures.
