I've been cheering since my freshmen year of High school. I currently cheer at Washburn University. I'm a Senior now at Washburn University. Cheerleading has helped me work on my time management and teamwork skills. Also being able to work under pressure when there's not much time for changes.
1. When I was a freshman, I helped out at the elementary school in Coffeyville, Kansas. The opportunity came my way as a student at Coffeyville Community College, and I was able to volunteer my time for a day to teach first grade. I had to help take attendance, take them out for reassessment, snack time, math, reading, and art.
2. My mother and I coach a softball team in the summer. The children range in age from 10 to 14. My love of softball motivates me to keep coaching so I can share my passion for softball with kids, something that I played as a kid and still enjoy today.
3. Helping out one of my former teammates with her Special Olympics cheer team is something I do for fun. Having her receive the help she needed was very important to me, so I ensured she got it. They are between the ages of 10 and 18. In addition to teaching them social skills, we also provide that they are being themselves. In addition, we teach them a cheer and a dance they will perform in front of a crowd at high school and middle school games.
4. During church services, I was an usher, passing out programs and holding the door for people entering and leaving.
5. One of my old dance coaches asked if I would be interested in judging dance tryouts. In the spring of last year, I helped judge tryouts for his high school team.
6. Before the softball season starts, volunteers come out to help clean the ballparks before the season begins. As a squad member, I'd come out whenever the ballpark needed cleaning.
