  • Performs one or more of the following receiving, warehousing and/or packing operations:
  • Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments reporting over, short, or damaged conditions. Checks and visually and physically examines a variety of incoming material. Assembles items into groups based on information shown on the receiving vouchers and segregates materials according to such factors as condition, type of transaction, or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines. Selects, stores, stacks, palletizes items based on their use, size, shape, quantity, and possibility of contamination. Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other items.
  • Selects items for shipment or issue verifying or preparing documentation either manually or by using automated equipment. Checks lists showing stock identification changes to insure that the proper items are selected and assembled for issue. Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests, and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Uses pallet measuring gages to insure the proper heights and widths of pallet loads, and that shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances.
  • Completes and signs shipping and receiving reports. Keeps record of materials or items received or distributed. Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the count. Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced item. Directly responsible and accountable for inventory accuracy when performing those tasks/assignments which directly affect it. Rewarehouses material in accordance with the depot master storage plan.
  • Used computers and keyboards to receive and transmit pick and stow data into the Distribution Standard System (DSS). Works in automated or non automated warehouses, loading docks, and/or outside storage/staging areas. Loads and unloads shipments from trucks, and other material conveyances using fork lifts capable of lifting and moving materials weighing up to 10,000 pounds, manual pallet handtrucks, side loaders, tractors, and tugs in warehouses and performs routine operator maintenance. Must be licensed/certified to operate required equipment.
  • Used Radio Frequency (RF) handheld to determine picks. Picks by priority or by what has to be pulled in the area with emergency picks done immediately. Must also consider lower priorities that have not been packed in a reasonable amount of time. Prior to pulling stock, verifies information, checks shelf life where applicable to ensure correctness. If information is correct pulls stock and applies label, if incorrect, inputs discrepancy codes. May be required to do counts or inventory of an item or location. Cleans area and brings items to the pack area. When working with items such as cloth, cable, wire, etc., measures/weighs textiles to quantity requirements.
  • Received material designated for immediate shipment and scheduled for release. Ensures that information contained on the documents matches material to be shipped. Examines shipping documents to determine cargo loading requirements. Checks transportation control number, stock, quantity, weight, cube, priority and other codes describing material.
  • Scheduled and coordinated carrier pick up or delivery as appropriate. Reviews shipping documents for information such as destination, priority, and weight. Based on this information, determines if the package should be shipped by small package carrier, US Postal Service, or air or freight carrier. Performs visual inspection of the package for appropriate mailing address, correct packing techniques, etc. If incorrect mailing labels are attached, researches appropriate guidelines for correct address and affixes a new label. Packs or repacks package when required and selects the proper packing material to provide adequate protection. Operates parcel shipping machine, postage metering equipment and other automated equipment. Identifies and corrects discrepancies for misrouted/returned material.
  • Packs and repacks a variety of items for shipment utilizing a wide variety of standard packing materials, methods and techniques. Determines appropriate method of packing based on the type of commodity/item to be packed. Assures correctness of shipping document by checking stock number, nomenclature, quality, etc. Selects containers from a variety of standard sized containers. Determines types of cushioning materials or devices to use in order to prevent shifting or breakage of material/item being shipped. Ensures that stock being packed matches that requested and that proper quantity is packed. Takes appropriate action to correct errors where wrong stock or quantity has been sent to the packing area. Work may involve the use of such tools as tape dispensers, stapling and banding machines, strapping tools, and hammers. Stencils, labels, and places other identifying markings on containers.
  • Uses computer systems to accomplish the following duties: process receipts and stow material; identify and work discrepancies in picks, receipt, packs and stows; take corrective action and make suggestions to work operations; performs inquiries to resolve receipt problems and to identify material and/or match material requirements to national stock number (NSNs). Operates and performs maintenance on a variety of both manual and automated equipment.
  • Operates one or more of the following materials handling equipment which includes, but is not limited to, fork lifts with a lift capability of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds, warehouse tractors, stock selectors, etc., to move, transfer and/or transport material. Materials of various sizes and weights are off-loaded from tugs and flatbeds are moved to staging lanes, various locations to and from pallets, or onto carrier container for shipment. Vehicles are normally operated in areas having smooth surfaces, and occasionally, may be operated in a confined, highly congested area. Ability to obtain a license/certification to operate materials handling equipment. Performs driver maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.
