I have two decades of experience in journalism including time spent at two daily newspapers and a television station. I've also been an animal rescue volunteer for seven years, serving on the board of three nonprofit organizations and acting as publicity chairwoman for another. I've spent the past eight months in a variety of roles at Spay Oklahoma, a nonprofit that runs a low-cost spay and neuter clinic.
I contribute significantly to a fast-paced work environment by handling animals at check-in and pick-up; going over after-care instructions with owners; answering the door throughout the day; advising the public on available resources; making all social-media posts; finding additional funding when necessary; working with outside organizations; cleaning crates and cages and managing laundry; and doing whatever else needs to be done.
I spent more than a decade as a college football and basketball beat writer. I was selected a national top-10 beat writer and won multiple state awards, and I was a voter for the Associated Press men's basketball poll for five seasons and the Heisman Trophy for three seasons. I covered the Final Four (2014), the NBA Finals (2012), four additional NCAA championships, eight college football bowls, a golf major and more than 20 high school state championships.
