Service Star Award. Helped rewrite the PA law when undocumented patients need services.

I received the service Star award at LVHN. I was helping a young homeless family in our community, tragedy happened with mom and dad. The whole family arrived to the ED mommy did not make it daddy was clinging to life. I told the ED supervisor that was my little family I was helping. The city police requested since the kids knew me I be allowed to enter  the room and help with the kids. We sang and danced  i fed them kept them busy .

I had a patient who was undocumented was diagnosed with cancer. I was able to get him insurance through the state.  He received a transplant with his own marrow that failed,  next step to receive a transplant from a living donor.  The state of PA said he cannot receive it they only cover US citizens. Between myself a case manger and Dr Nik at Penn State Hershey we all lobbied the state and requested they reconsider that law not only for our patient but for everyone. I was notified that we won.  The state of PA will look at each case and approve case by case basis. Unfortunately it was not successful for my patient.
