I would help serve food, set up for “Special Events, work the register, train new Bussers and help train new servers. I close the restaurant a couple days a week which entails counting the drawer, shutting down the server station and back of the house. Making sure the cook and dishwasher have completed their closing takes and making sure the Busser has done his closing tasks as well.
DLM is a clothing closet, food pantry, and hygiene pantry. We service the people of Summit County. We deliver food and hygiene, help the community shop for clothing, we offer bus passes, Lyft rides, offer mental health through Hope Behavioral and also offer Grief Recovery. We host an event once a month where anyone can come in and get a hot meals, food box and hygiene pantry, and shop for clothing. We also offer Stabilization Program. In that program we help a person set up goals for success to better their lives. We provide legal services, help with housing, education, mental health, finance, obtaining birth certificates and social security card (s), help find a job, interview clothes and will also do “Mock Interviews “. We also partner with Project Rise.
I worked with men and women coming back from prison on a Judicial Release. Rather than do a straight judicial they are put into a program called Reentry Court. They work with a judge, probation officer, judge, and then me. I am that person that is relatable. I successfully went through the program, graduated with no issues, and understand exactly what they are going through. I was a volunteer for 6 months and then was offered the job. There was not a “Hand book” on how to run the program. I was told to run the program like I would’ve wanted when I came home from Prison. I was that person they could call for anything, help them find resources in the Community, attend court hearings, go to CBCF, RIPP, or TMRC if they were there so I could continue to work with them. I had volunteer Mentors, other graduates from the program, they could work with and talk too. I helped find Sober Living and other living spaces, I aided them in reaching the goals they stated at the beginning of the program, take them to meetings and work with their families. I also developed “Monthly Events” where the clients and the families could gather in a “ Safe space” and do something “normal” at no cost to them. We had grants that covered the activities. Being around “like minded” people who are going through what you are going through is such a positive thing. Some of the events included Rock Climbing, bowling, Float the River, Boo at the Zoo, Christmas Lights, and Baseball games. I would also do a private breakfast at Akron Family once a month. At these events I also included graduates.
